IPv6-first shortlist: documented allocation versus unknown
BuyVM, Linode, DigitalOcean and Vultr 2 GB plans compared on IPv6 evidence, allocation size and what remains unstated.
Recorded data: 2026-10-25 · Comparison question: Which 2 GB plans can actually be verified as dual-stack before purchase?

Scope: Plans captured on 2026-10-24/25; IPv6 status only where the provider's own documentation states it.
Documented allocations
BuyVM documents a /48 per KVM slice with per-location gateways, the largest allocation in this comparison. Linode documents automatic IPv6 with a /128 plus a routed /64 in most regions. DigitalOcean documents free IPv6 enablement with a single /128 address.
Those three are different products for networking: a /48 supports internal segmentation, a /64 supports a downstream network, and a /128 supports one service endpoint.
The plan that is not verifiable
Vultr's plans API exposes CPU, memory, disk, bandwidth and price but not address assignment on the captured endpoint, so IPv6 is recorded as unknown for Vultr plans. That is not a statement that Vultr lacks IPv6; it is a statement that this dataset cannot verify it.
A hard IPv6 requirement therefore excludes the Vultr plan from the shortlist even though it may work in practice. Verify on the provider's dashboard or support before relaxing the requirement.
Price and transfer context
The table normalizes the recorded USD monthly prices and lists transfer allowances per plan. A larger IPv6 allocation does not correlate with a higher price here: BuyVM's price band overlaps the others while offering the largest prefix.
Transfer allowances matter for a VPN or a container host that pushes traffic through the prefix; check them before choosing purely on allocation size.
Verification steps
Provision one instance per candidate, confirm inbound and outbound connectivity for both families from an external network, and verify reverse DNS if you run mail. For routed prefixes, confirm that the provider actually routes the prefix rather than only assigning an address.
Only after those checks should a production name move to the new host.
Limits of this comparison
- Vultr address assignment is unknown on the captured API endpoint, not confirmed absent.
- Upstream firewalls can block a family even when the instance is configured.
- No latency or throughput measurements are published in this dataset.
Facts come from provider-published sources recorded in the catalog. Independent performance, support and reliability measurements are not available, so this comparison does not rank those dimensions.
