Hetzner CPX22 vs DigitalOcean Basic 4 GB vs Linode 4 GB

Three popular 4 GB shared plans compared on recorded price, renewal, transfer, backups and region coverage — without inventing a performance winner.

Recorded data: 2026-10-25 · Comparison question: Which of these three 4 GB shared plans fits an EU or US web workload in this dataset?

Scope: Recorded snapshots for Hetzner CPX22, DigitalOcean Basic 4 GB and Linode 4 GB on 2026-10-24; price, specifications and published policy only.

What the recorded prices actually include

The table below shows the listed monthly price, the renewal price, the renewal-aware 12-month planning figure and whether a setup fee was recorded. Hetzner's price is an IPv4-inclusive composite for the EU locations in the capture; DigitalOcean and Linode include a primary IPv4 address in their plans.

Hetzner's plan normally has a larger included transfer allowance in EU locations than in Singapore, and the captured region entries reflect that difference. DigitalOcean and Linode split transfer by region too, so the same plan name can carry different allowances depending on where it is deployed.

Resources and storage

All three plans are in the 4 GB class with two vCPUs and around 80 GB of local storage. The table records the exact provider-stated figures and the storage type; re-check the live pages before buying because plan sizes are revised without notice.

None of these plans publishes a disk IOPS limit in the captured sources, so the storage comparison is about capacity and type, not measured throughput.

Region coverage and latency expectations

Hetzner's recorded locations are European plus Singapore; DigitalOcean and Linode add North America and, for Linode, Japan and India. If you need Osaka or Tokyo, Linode is the only one of the three with those regions in this dataset.

Region lists describe where infrastructure exists. They do not promise per-size stock or low latency from your users, so measure from a representative location before committing.

Backups and add-on cost

DigitalOcean documents weekly backups at a percentage of the Droplet price and daily backups at a higher percentage. Linode publishes fixed monthly backup prices per plan size. Hetzner sells backups as a separate add-on whose price was not captured for this plan, so its backup cost is unknown here rather than zero.

If backups are mandatory, include the published add-on in the comparison; if the price is unknown, budget for it explicitly instead of assuming it is free.

When each plan is the reasonable choice

Choose Hetzner when EU cost and per-datacenter pricing matter and Singapore is the only non-EU region you need. Choose DigitalOcean when you want a broader western region list and percentage-based backup pricing. Choose Linode when Japan or India coverage is a requirement.

This is a fit judgement from price, specifications and regions. The dataset contains no independent performance or support measurement, so none of the three can be called faster or more reliable here.

Limits of this comparison

  • No measured CPU, disk or network performance is available for these plans.
  • Hetzner backup pricing and snapshot pricing were not captured for this specific offer.
  • Prices and region availability can change daily; the table shows the recorded observation date.

Facts come from provider-published sources recorded in the catalog. Independent performance, support and reliability measurements are not available, so this comparison does not rank those dimensions.
